France will start stopping small boats in English Channel following UK pressure
French officials have consented to start intercepting small boats in the Channel, after an extended period of insistence from the UK.
This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President asking him to support the initiative and saying there presently "lack any effective deterrent" in the maritime passage.
French security forces will be allowed to stop the small boats at sea, but only before they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative statements.
French authorities have infrequently acted to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as too great a risk to both officers and individuals.
"It is essential that we implement these methods this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel."
Currently, a French naval police spokesperson says personnel will start taking action at sea, with the objective of protecting lives.
Significantly, the official excluded the use of nets to intercept boats, which had earlier been reported as a possible method to disable the engines of the vessels.
This determination to intervene at all is a major advancement, following a brief change towards a more aggressive approach this summer, which ceased when the previous government official departed from government.
That was highlighted in the summer month, preceding a meeting between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed walking into the sea to damage the hulls of a boat.
Currently French authorities will once more be permitted to intercept boats prior to they pick up migrant individuals from the coastal areas of northern France, however it's uncertain how the small boats will be prevented.
Strong winds are currently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be seeking methods to adapt to avoid detection, as they have frequently done in the past.
UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for comment.
